↟ Break Away Tale NR 120 // @justusandabus⠀
Mark + Jen here reporting for Break Away Tales! A teacher and an accountant from the land down under. We love our sunburnt country (Australia) but our lives reeked of routine and we needed to break away. Feeling burnt out and underwhelmed by the material things that our hard earned cash afforded us, we decided to start saving for something worth while.⠀
Upon being granted our VISA’s we quit our jobs, bought a couple of one way tickets to Canada, sold some stuff and arranged to purchase a converted short bus (Moby) from some fellow Aussies in Vancouver BC. We’ve been pirates of the road for three months and counting and we’re having the time of our lives.⠀
Living in a bus doesn’t come without its challenges, but the trade-off is so worth it. We’ve seen some incredible places, made memories that we’ll treasure forever, met some beautiful people and experienced things that have helped us to grow and become better people.⠀
We’ve learnt that you don’t need a lot to be happy and realised that we took too many things for granted in our old lives. Clean, running water, hot showers, pluming, fresh food, friends and family are all luxuries that we’ll fully appreciate from now on. We like to think that when we return to Australia we’ll choose to live within our means/reduce our footprint. A minimalist lifestyle will grant us the freedom to continue our adventures and live more meaningful lives.⠀
We’re not hippies and we’re not especially inspirational, we just know what a lot of people are coming to realise - that you should be working to live, not living to work. Life’s too short and in the end none of that superficial stuff matters. Our measure of success will be our memories and our relationships.
